"Susie. Sarah. I once read that names which begin with the letter 'S' are the names of SNAKES!"

Suzy Bannion travels to Germany to perfect her ballet skills. She arrives at the Tanz dance academy in the pouring rain and is refused admission after another woman is seen fleeing the school. She returns the next morning and this time is let in. She learns that the young woman she saw fleeing the previous evening, Pat Hingle, has been found dead. Strange things soon begin to occur. Suzy becomes ill and is put on a special diet; the school becomes infested with maggots; odd sounds abound; and Daniel, the pianist, is killed by his own dog. A bit of research indicates that the ballet school was once a witches' coven - and as Suzy learns, still is.

Did Ya Know?
01
IT IS PARTIALLY INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY - According to co-writer Daria Nicolodi, her grandmother Yvonne Müller Loeb was once sent away as a young girl to a prestigious boarding school, only to find that Black Magic was actually being practiced there.
02
THE CHARACTERS WERE ORIGINALLY MUCH YOUNGER - The students at the dance school were suppose to be very young, aged eight to 10. This made producers nervous, not just because of the idea of brutally murdering little girls onscreen, but because Argento’s tendency toward perfectionism was not a good fit for child actors.
03
THE SCORE WAS INNOVATIVE - To craft the music, Argento turned to the Italian band Goblin. Argento wanted the score to sound otherworldly, like nothing heard in a film before, so the band developed innovative sounds using a variety of unique methods. They used African drums, Greek stringed instruments, and household items to create the nightmarish score.
